AECP#9 Easy Die Cutting

If you are a card maker, you've got to give the Altenew Academy classes a try. I am working my way through 20 classes in order to obtain certification by Altenew and I am really enjoying the process. This post is my ninth post of the first ten classes. The class was Easy Die Cutting Techniques taught by Yana Smakula.
The technique which caught my eye was creating a stencil with a die cut. The idea is that use either a background die, or cut your own design, with a separate die in a piece of card stock. That is then used as a stencil.

What I myself discovered was to cover the piece of card stock with washi tape first, then cut it out as shown below (I used Cube Cover Die). The washi tape keeps the card stock sturdier and will then hold up for many many uses. If you're thinking to yourself, I am not going to take the time to cover a card base with 1/4" washi tape! Altenew has nice wide washi tape which can cover a card base in one piece.
I used Altenew's Dotted Washi Tape:
Here is the final "stencil" after I colored both cards:
Once cut, I used my Wendy Vecchi Make Art Station to hold the "stencil" onto a piece of white card stock. I used a rainbow of Altenew colors with my Scrapbook.com foam ink blending tools and made a beautiful colorful rainbow!
As usual, I made 2 cards...because it's no fun to make just one! The one on the right I made for Father's Day for my husband. He loved it.
The sentiments are from the Crafty Life Stamp set. Such fun sentiments!
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my cards.  Give this technique a try...so many option! Be well, friends.

    1. Thank you, Erum! You’re so sweet. I would love to start teaching at a local shop,in Wake Forest, NC called The Cotton Company, buy due to COVID-19 I don’t think that will be possible for a while. I enjoy watching videos, but I don’t think I will venture there..at least not yet!
